Day 1 of the touch rugby world cup in Scotland has on the most part being a good one for the Touchboks. A few of the teams have finished on top of their pools with the rest putting up big fights for top honors. Here are the results in all the categories:

Mens Open

vs. Singapore – Won 9-1
vs. Scotland – Won 7-2
vs. United States – Won 12-1

They are now into the Cup group which means all the big games come out including the showdown between Australia and New Zealand.

Womens Open

vs. England – Won 4-3
vs. Germany – Won 6-0

The ladies will play France to see who finishes top of the group with good odds on the SA Womens team.

Mixed Open

vs. Jersey – Won 13-6
vs. France – Won 11-2

The mixed team has also set up a good platform and will play the USA team tomorrow to see who finishes number 1 in their group.

Senior Mixed

vs. Wales – Won 7-3
vs. Italy – Won 13-0
vs. New Zealand – Lost 0-9

Don’t let the loss fool you, the New Zealand team contains some of the best mixed players the world has ever seen and when it comes to the knock out stages the South African team will definitely be tighter on defence.

Mens 30

vs. Germany – Won 8-0
vs. Australia – Lost 2-16
vs. Luxembourg – Won 14-1

Once again defense let the Mens 30 side down against Australia who contain many of the previous Touch World Cup gold medal winning players. As we move further into the tournament they will definitely be a bit more prepared for the Australian attack.

Mens 35

vs. Scotland – Won 11-1
vs. Wales – Won 11-3
vs. United States – Won 8-4

This team is looking hot and has scored 30 tries in only 3 games. All that needs to be worked on is tighter defense.

All in all the teams are looking set for a great day out on day number 2 and we shall definitely be seeing the best touch over the next few days.

We came across these YouTube videos the other day on the USN website of inserts they placed into Espresso (an early morning lifestyle show on SABC 3). Unfortuneately they are heavily USN branded but the publicity touch rugby will receive in the country is huge; so we don’t care.

Also to Ewan Strydom, we like to call it Touchies.

Enjoy.

There are a few things you will always here on a touch field and that is “hands” and “sub when you’re tired”. The former is definitely something that should be listened especially when hands are on. The latter however is an issue entirely on its on. First let’s look at the logic of that statement. [...]

Even though the teams were selected last year there has been a few changes and we would still like to congratulate every player that made their respective teams for the upcoming world cup in Scotland. We would also like to mention that they have been officiall been dubbed the “Touchboks” which earned them their national [...]
